Section 6
National Plant Protection Organization may designate –
(1) The Government of Nepal may designate any central level office related to plant protection as a National Plant Protection Organization by publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazette.
(2) In addition to the work, duties and rights mentioned elsewhere in this Act, the work, duties and rights of the organization shall be as follows:-
(a) To prepare standards related to the health of plants or plant products to be imported or exported and submit them to the committee for approval,
(b) preparing and implementing guidelines for the testing, examination, inspection and treatment of plants, plant products, biological control agents, beneficial insects and other items,
(c) To identify the danger zone and protect the plants and plant products in that area through the quarantine process,
(d) To identify enemy free areas and low enemy infested areas and announce and monitor such areas,
(e) prescribing conditions and restrictions regarding the propagation and use of plants and plant products, biological control agents, beneficial insects,
(f) Acting as a national co-ordinator of work relating to plants and plant products, beneficial insects, biological control agents or other commodities,
(g) Applying, causing to be applied the accepted standards regarding the healthiness of plants or plant products to be imported or exported,
(h) Coordinate with the plant health authorities of other countries and agree on the recognition of each other's entry permit and health certificate,
(i) To do other work as specified.
